101 Positive Affirmations To See You Through The Day – #6

Today’s post amused me because yesterday – Sunday I would normally write a few blogs and be ready for the week ahead. I was not prepared for a reaction to buckwheat and having to go to bed to recover. Nor was I prepared for the storm that kept me awake last night. However, I can view each with a smile because although I did not get my stuff done, I am at ease with that and allowing today flow.

Being prepared…

Without a crystal ball, you have no way of knowing what is coming up. So while you can’t be prepared for the surprises in life, you can get yourself ready so that you are prepared for the unknown. Ok, that may sound like jibberish, but what I mean is that you can put yourself in a position where, if life throws you a curveball, you will be better able to work through it.

This means being personally prepared for the road ahead. The question is, how do you prepare for an awakening, a disaster, an illness, accident or any other life-changing event. By being our best self and working through our personal grunge, we can better prepare for how we will feel when stuff happens. When we tap into our emotions and change how we feel, we are ready to tackle what lies ahead.

Being prepared for me also means starting your day well. Mine starts with reflection, journaling and a walk with my dogs. When I walk with them, I connect with Mother Nature, giving me more thinking and just being time.

In this reflective space, I run through what I need to achieve for the day. I let random thoughts come to me, and if I need to capture anything, I’ll write it in my journal. The evening before, I will have planned out what I need to do, and I have learned that things take a lot longer than you think, so I set myself up for success and do not over plan.

I make conscious choices about what I want to feel and create in the hours I have available. I use my time more efficiently, taking regular breaks and flexing that time to be more effective. I work in a way that works for me and, dare I say it, my sanity.

Being mindful and a present as possible helps them when you get presented with something that is perhaps urgent for someone. They hadn’t prepared, are now panicking, and suddenly you are responsible for their lack of preparation. In these cases, if you are mindful, work with your breath, stay calm and other things that you have learned in your readiness for life, you will smoothly transition the problem to solved.

In these situations, done is better than perfect. The first thing to do is to ditch the perfection. Then learn from your mistakes and feedback, and you will be better prepared next time.

As well as preparing your mental and emotional state for the surprises in life, there are other more practical things that you can also consider.

Bring to mind the ordinary day to day things that you need to do. What about eating? Do you have a forever empty fridge, or are you scrabbling around at lunchtime, wondering what to eat? What can you stock up on? What can you prepare ahead of time? Can you batch cook?

Food is just one example. What about how prepared you are for your computer crashing or your website being hacked? There is nothing more annoying than writing something to find that you didn’t save it to a place that gets backed up or didn’t save every few minutes.

My key message about preparation is to be as prepared as possible and then allow everything to flow. You cannot predict how things will go, but you can get all of your pieces together. When you have prepared and feel comfortable in who you are, what you know, what you have set up, then pretty much anything can happen.

You will learn and gain experience as you deal with each thing, and as long as you view it as feedback and ask what you can do differently next time, take action to sort things out, you will be on the right track.
