First read – The December Full Moon in Gemini: What Are You Ready to Release?
You have fifteen days between this full moon (4th/5th December) and the Sagittarius new moon (20th December). Fifteen days in the threshold and fifteen days on the bridge between release and rebirth.
Visualisation: The Bridge Between Moons
Find a quiet moment – preferably under the moonlight, but your kitchen table will do just fine. It might be a bit cold outside. I’ll be upstairs in the lounge with the log fire blazing.
- Light a candle if you fancy. (I always do. There’s something about flame that makes ritual feel real rather.)
- Close your eyes. Take three deep breaths that actually reach your belly.
- Now, imagine yourself standing on a bridge. Behind you is the full moon – bright, enormous, illuminating everything. It’s the December Full Moon in Gemini, and under its light, you can see clearly.
- Look back along the bridge you’ve travelled this year. See the moments where you betrayed yourself. Not with judgment – there’s been quite enough of that, thank you – but with compassion and clarity. Notice the patterns. The recurring themes. The stories you told yourself to justify staying in the shadows.
- As you witness each moment, imagine it as a stone in your hands. Feel its weight. Acknowledge what carrying it has cost you.
- Now turn to face forward on the bridge. Ahead of you, the landscape is darker – the new moon hasn’t arrived yet. But you know it’s coming. The Sagittarius New Moon on the 20th bringing the energy of rebirth, adventure, and expansion. The energy of becoming.
- One by one, drop the stones from your hands over the side of the bridge. Watch them fall away. You don’t need to know where they land or what comes next. You just need to let them go.
- With each stone released, feel your throat open a little more. Feel the pressure at your third eye ease. Feel yourself becoming lighter, freer, more yourself.
- Stay on the bridge as long as you need. You’re in the liminal space between letting go and beginning again. There’s no rush.
- When you’re ready, open your eyes. You’re still here. Still you. But perhaps a little lighter.
Journal Prompts
Grab your journal – the one you’ve been meaning to write in more regularly. (No judgment.) Pour yourself something warm. And get honest with your pen.
On the Stories You’ve Been Telling Yourself
- What have I been telling myself about who I am, what I can do, or what I deserve? Write the story you’ve been living by. Then read it back and ask: “Would I want my daughter/best friend/younger self to believe this?”
- Complete this sentence as many times as it takes: “I’ve been betraying myself by…”
- What truth have I been swallowing? If I could say it out loud without consequence, what would I say?
On What Needs to Be Released
- What patterns of self-abandonment am I ready to release? (Be specific. “Being more authentic” is lovely but vague. “Saying yes to social events I dread because I’m afraid of seeming difficult” is something you can work with.)
- What am I holding onto that’s not mine to carry? (Others’ expectations, outdated versions of yourself, responsibilities that belong to someone else)
- If I released the need to be “good” or “nice,” what would change?
On the Throat Chakra and Communication
- Where have I silenced myself this year? What was I afraid would happen if I spoke up?
- What conversation am I avoiding? What needs to be said?
- Complete this: “If my throat could speak its truth without my brain’s interference, it would say…”
On Insight and Illumination
- What does this supermoon’s extra brightness reveal that I’ve been trying not to see?
- When I’m truly honest with myself, what do I already know?
- What would the wisest part of me say about where I am right now?
On the Bridge Between Now and What’s Next
- What am I ready to let go of before the new moon on the 20th?
- What do I want to carry forward into the new year, and what must I leave behind?
- If I were truly celebrating my year – not the highlight reel, but the real, messy, honest year – what would I be celebrating? What hard-won wisdom? What quiet victories? What moments of choosing myself, even in small ways?
Closing Reflections: In the Darkness, the Light Returns
Full moons don’t get easier, but you get wiser. You learn that the illumination isn’t a punishment – it’s a gift. Even when it’s uncomfortable, and especially when it’s uncomfortable.
This December Full Cold Moon in Gemini is offering you clarity. It’s making your patterns of self-betrayal visible not to shame you, but to free you. Because you can’t release what you can’t see, and you can’t receive a true vision of what’s next if you’re still clutching what’s already dead.
The supermoon energy amplifies everything, yes. But it also gives you the extra light you need to see your way forward. To see what needs releasing before the Sagittarius New Moon arrives on the 20th with its invitation to dream bigger, expand further, and receive the vision of what wants to be born.
Between now and then, you’re on the bridge. In the liminal space. In the pause between exhale and inhale. This is the in-between place. This is where transformation actually happens – not in the dramatic moments, but in the quiet choosing to put down what’s heavy and turn your face toward the returning light.
Because that’s what December really is: the return of the light. After the solstice on the 21st, imperceptibly at first, the days begin to lengthen. Hope is reborn in the darkness. Vision forms in the depths of winter. But this isn’t the time to act on it yet. Seeds don’t leap from the soil in December. They rest, they dream, and gather what they need for the emerging that will come later – do that too.
Your work right now is to see clearly. To release what needs releasing. To receive the vision that’s forming. To let your third eye open and your throat speak truth. To witness the light returning and trust that what you see in this darkness will inform everything that follows.
Don’t rush this – I know it isn’t easy when you want to spring into action. December’s gift is vision without the pressure of immediate action. You’re allowed to just see for now, to know without needing to do and to receive without needing to get out there.
Grab your candle and journal and scribble. Then go somewhere where you can speak this aloud to yourself and maybe to a friend. I might invite the dogs onto the terrace for a howling session – ok, maybe not, the neighbours might not be amused…
And then, with all the compassion you’ve been saving for everyone else, ask yourself: What am I ready to release? What vision is forming for me in this darkness? What do I see now that the light is returning?
The December Full Cold Moon is at its fullest on 5th December at 00:14 (Spain). The Sagittarius New Moon follows on 20th December. You have these fifteen days to do the work between – to release, to reflect, to prepare for your rebirth.
With love and lunar light, Dale
P.S. If you’re feeling the pull to do this work in community, with guidance and support, my “Alchemy of Becoming” workshop on 17th December is designed for this threshold time. We’ll be gathering between these two powerful moons to do the deep work of releasing and rebirthing together. Learn more here – €88 includes 21 days of integration support. And you are welcome to join The Alchemy Of Becoming community.
