5th December 2025, 00:14 (Spain) – The Third Supermoon of the Year
I was looking back at an article I’d written in 2020 about the December full moon in Gemini and reflecting on what had come up for me. It was all about not feeling like I was enough.
These stories were there, and reading them, I was right back in each experience.
There was the girl who won the esteemed pack of felt pens for coming first in a small competition. I remember I was on the last question, I found the book with the answer and raced to claim first place. But it was a hollow victory; it seemed to me that not one of my fellow students was happy for me. Standing on the stage was horrible.
It was the same school that didn’t pick me for the choir… Well, I don’t blame them; I couldn’t sing. But my dreams of being a rock star were smashed against the rocks that day.
Later, there was the man who walked up to me in my Paradise Garage leopard print dress to tell me nice body, shame about the face. What he didn’t know was that I had abandoned my regular jeans and baggy top to take my courage in my hands to go out like this. Yes, he certainly helped my self-esteem.
Thankfully, these are long ago and far away, and I don’t a toss what anyone thinks about my singing – it’s still awful, or what I wear, and I am still mostly in jeans.
Whatever is coming up for you, it could be time to reassess the conversations you are having with yourself. You know the ones. The internal debate about whether you’re being too sensitive, too demanding, or too much. Or perhaps, the quieter, irritating voice you’ve been ignoring, about being not enough.
The Lunar Hero’s Journey
Every 29.5 days, we have the opportunity to live a complete hero’s journey – not the linear, external adventure of slaying dragons and claiming kingdoms, but the cyclical, internal adventure of shedding what no longer serves and stepping more fully into who we’re becoming.
We don’t start over every month. Instead, this is about spiralling upward, using each lunar cycle as a sacred container for growth, healing, and a deeper connection with our wild hearts. By the time you’re 50, you’ve lived through hundreds of these cycles. You’re a master who’s ready to work with the rhythm instead of against it.
The lunar hero’s journey works like this:
- New Moon (Days 1–3) – The Call: A seed of vision or intention stirs in the fertile dark; the soul whispers what’s ready to emerge
- Waxing Crescent (Days 4–7) – First Steps: You begin moving toward the unknown, tenderly committing to the path ahead
- First Quarter (Days 8–11) – Obstacles & Breakthroughs: Tensions rise; inner resistance meets outer challenge, inviting courage and clarity
- Waxing Gibbous (Days 12–14) – Refining the Quest: Allies, insights, and tests help shape your direction; discernment deepens
- Full Moon (Days 15–17) – Illumination & Shadow: The peak moment – truth is revealed, shadows are faced, and the treasure is received
- Waning Gibbous (Days 18–21) – Integration: Wisdom settles in; you begin embodying what you’ve learned and may guide others
- Third Quarter (Days 22–25) – Release: Letting go of outdated identities, beliefs, or attachments to make space for the new
- Waning Crescent (Days 26–29) – Return to the Void: A sacred pause; you rest, reflect, and prepare to begin again – transformed
We know that:
- The call will come again
- Obstacles are part of the path
- Dark times aren’t permanent
- We always return changed
- Each cycle builds on the last
And right now we are ready to step into full moon energy and all that she brings.
The December Full Moon Energy
“The moon does not fight. It attacks no one. It does not worry. It does not try to crush others. It keeps to its course, but by its very nature, it gently influences. What other body could pull an entire ocean from shore to shore? The moon is faithful to its nature and its power is never diminished.” – Deng Ming-Dao
The Full Moon arrives like a cosmic spotlight, illuminating everything – your progress, your resistance, your truth and your power. This is the climax of your monthly hero’s journey, where you receive the treasure you’ve been seeking and face whatever shadows have been revealed along the way. This is the exhale after the inhale of the new moon and the moment when you finally see what you’ve been creating, whether you meant to or not. They also have a way of making visible the stories we’ve been telling ourselves all year.
The Hero’s Climax
Your Full Moon revelations might include:
- Clear insights about your path forward
- Recognition of patterns, you’re ready to change
- Acknowledgement of how much you’ve grown
- Facing fears or shadows you’ve been avoiding
- Receiving unexpected gifts or opportunities
- Understanding the deeper purpose of your monthly journey
- Feeling your own power more fully than before
It’s the third supermoon of the year, which means it’s closer to Earth, appearing larger and brighter than usual. Everything looks amplified under this moon – including the patterns we’ve been running on repeat. Ouch!
Third Eye Energy
Full moons connect with the third eye. Your third eye chakra is about seeing differently, perception, imagination, psychic ability, and higher intuition. It also deals with your relationship with yourself and your connection to your Higher Self. It is the place of imagination, insight, visualisation, dreams, and visions. Here, you will receive guidance corroborating your emotions at the sacral and gut feelings at the solar plexus. This chakra acts as our guiding light in life, giving us the ability to see solutions, be objective, and be clear-headed. We bridge left- and right-brained thinking and get our most significant insights here. This is the second of the spiritual chakras, which opens the gateway to developing clairvoyance.
This is feminine energy.
- Associated with intuition, insight, and wisdom
- Feminine energy here relates to inner knowing, perception, and imagination
- Balancing this energy enhances intuitive abilities and clarity of thought
December: When the Light Returns and Vision Awakens
December marks the calendar year’s end, but on the Wheel of the Year – the ancient cycle that follows nature’s actual rhythms – we’re not at the finish line. The true year turns at Samhain (end of October/early November).
This is a period when the light begins its return. After the Winter Solstice on the 21st, the days start lengthening again, imperceptibly at first, but lengthening nonetheless. The light is coming back. Hope is being reborn in the darkness, and I get to go out with my dogs earlier for our first walk or maybe I’ll stay cosy in bed.
The paradox that makes December so powerful is that this is a time for vision, for seeing clearly what wants to emerge, but not yet rushing to make it happen. This is a time to dream, but no more. The seeds are still underground, cocooned in the nourishing soil. The light is returning, but winter isn’t over.
And December, in its wisdom, asks: What vision is forming for you in the darkness? What do you see now that the light is beginning its return?
As I said, this isn’t about rushing ahead with action plans. This is about receiving the vision of who you’re becoming, what you’re releasing, and what wants to be born through you. The action comes later. Right now, you’re in the seeing part.
This is your gentle reminder not to rush to fix or do it it all (that’s January’s energy). Simply witness it, honour it, and let it inform the vision that’s forming.
Third Eye Meets December
December is also connected with third eye energy and shows you what’s possible – but your hands stay still. You’ll have to sit on your hands or scribble some more reflections in your journal. So this full moon, we have double the illumination, double the revelation and double the “oh bugger, I can’t unsee that now, can I?”
This is when we see clearly, perhaps for the first time in months, all the subtle ways that we have abandoned and betrayed ourselves become obvious. Self-betrayal is the slow erosion of self. It’s death by a thousand compromises, each one feeling so reasonable at the time:
- Staying quiet when something doesn’t feel right
- Dismissing your own needs as “too much”
- Performing who you think you should be rather than being who you are
- Choosing everyone’s comfort over your own truth
- Redirecting your creative energy to serve others’ dreams instead of your own
- What patterns of self-betrayal are you ready to see clearly? Not to fix immediately, but to truly see?
The third eye chakra asks: What do you see when you stop lying to yourself? Ouch!
The Cold Moon
The December full moon is a cold moon and they call it the cold moon for a reason. Not just because it marks the depth of winter, but because there’s a certain crystalline clarity that comes with the cold. I’ve just been for a walk in the cold, and despite a terrible night’s sleep (thank you, full moon), I can attest to some cold clarity.
As a supermoon, her gravitational pull is stronger, too. Not just on the tides, but on everything she governs – emotions, intuition, the subconscious patterns we thought we’d hidden quite cleverly, thank you very much. Whatever’s been lurking beneath the surface is coming up for air.
So if you’ve been trying to ignore something, good luck with that under this moon. It’s time for your awakening. The question isn’t whether you’ll see it. The question is: what will you do when you do?
Gemini Energy: The Power of the Voice and the Stories We Tell
Now, let’s talk about Gemini. This moon is dancing through the sign of the Twins, ruled by Mercury, governing communication, rational thinking, problem-solving, and intellect.
Gemini is an air sign, and air is about breath, words and the stories we tell ourselves and others. It’s the internal narrator that’s been running commentary on your life since you were old enough to think in words.
Have you ever thought that perhaps the narrator has been lying to you? Not maliciously. But she’s been telling you stories to keep you safe, and to keep you from rocking the boat. Stories like:
- “I’m too old to start something new”
- “I shouldn’t be so sensitive”
- “Who am I to want more?”
- “I’m fine, really, I’m fine”
- “This is just how it is”
Under this Gemini moon, you get to hear those stories with fresh ears, notice the script you’ve been reading from, the one you didn’t even realise someone else had written.
But this Cold Moon isn’t just about what you see – it’s about what you do with what you see. And that’s where Gemini comes in.
Throat Chakra Energy
Gemini is connected with the throat chakra. The throat chakra is how you communicate, listen and understand. Many personal transformations can occur here when you finally learn to find your voice and speak your truth. It is from here that you can communicate and express your divine inner wisdom. You will find yourself being sensitive to the power of words, thinking about how you speak to yourself and others. It also influences your ability to actively listen to and hear others, which is how you create your foundation for understanding. This is the first of the spiritual chakras, which opens the gateway to developing clairaudience and the other chakras.
The Throat Chakra is masculine.
- Linked to communication, self-expression, and truth
- Masculine energy here manifests as clear communication and the ability to speak one’s truth
- Balancing this energy improves the articulation of thoughts and authentic self-expression
The throat chakra asks: What do you need to say that you’ve been swallowing?
The Sacred Marriage Of The December Full Moon: When Seeing and Speaking Align
Now here’s where this full moon gets really interesting – where these two energies meet.
The magic of this particular full moon is that you’re being asked to marry these two energies – the feminine seeing with the masculine speaking, and to let what you witness through your third eye find its voice through your throat chakra.
And that might not be easy.
Some of us see everything – we’re perceptive, intuitive, deeply aware – but we struggle to give voice to what we see. We witness our own patterns of self-betrayal, see clearly how we’ve been abandoning ourselves, but we can’t seem to speak it. The words catch, our throat closes, and we swallow it down again.
Others of us are comfortable speaking – articulate, expressive, good with words – but often we’re speaking someone else’s truth. We’re voicing the script we inherited, the story we were told to tell, the version of ourselves that keeps us safe and small. We haven’t done the deeper work of seeing clearly first.
This full moon is asking you to do both.
- First, the seeing: Let your third eye show you what it needs to show you. The patterns of self-betrayal. The ways you’ve been living someone else’s story. The vision of who you’re becoming. Don’t rush past the discomfort of seeing clearly. Sit with it. Witness it. Let the full moon illuminate it all.
- Then, the speaking: Let your throat chakra give voice to what you’ve seen. Not in a dramatic confrontation (unless that’s truly called for), but in the quiet, steady act of speaking truth. To yourself first. In your journal. In whispered words to the moon. And then, when you’re ready, to others.
The Bridge Between Them: Your Breath
Gemini is an air sign which, as we know, governs communication and the throat. This breath of fresh air, therefore, becomes the bridge between seeing and speaking.
Your breath moves through your throat chakra. It carries your words and gives voice to your vision.
When you hold your breath, you hold your truth. When you breathe shallowly, you speak only surface truths. But when you breathe fully – deep belly breaths that reach all the way down -you access the courage to say what you’ve seen.
Try it now. Take a deep breath. A real one. The kind that makes your shoulders drop and your belly expand. Feel how it opens your throat. Feel how it clears the space between your third eye and your voice.
That’s the pathway. That’s the bridge. Breath carries vision into voice.
What This Means Practically: The Work of Integration
So what does all this mean for you, practically speaking, under this December full moon?
Step One: See Clearly (Feminine/Third Eye)
Give yourself permission to see what your third eye is revealing without judgment and without immediately trying to fix it. Just see.
Ask yourself:
- What pattern of self-betrayal is most obvious right now?
- What story have I been telling myself that isn’t actually true?
- What vision is forming for who I’m becoming?
- What do I see when I stop lying to myself?
Write it down in all of its messiness, even if it feels uncomfortable. Let the full moon show you what it shows you.
Step Two: Breathe (The Bridge)
Before you speak, breathe deeply and fully. Let your breath open the pathway between your seeing and your speaking. Your breath literally activates your parasympathetic nervous system, calms your fear response, and opens your throat.
Take three deep breaths before you write, before you speak, and before you voice what you’ve seen.
Step Three: Speak Truth (Masculine/Throat)
Now, give voice to what you’ve seen. Start small if you need to. Write anything, but you must start.
Write it in your journal. Say it out loud to yourself in the mirror. Shout or howl at the moon. Text it to your best friend. Say it to the person who needs to hear it.
The speaking is what integrates the seeing. The masculine expression is what grounds the feminine vision. One without the other leaves you stuck – either seeing everything but unable to act on it, or speaking boldly but from an unexamined place.
You need both.
The Questions These Chakras Are Asking You
As you work with this December full moon energy, hold these questions:
From the Third Eye (Feminine Seeing):
- What am I being shown that I’ve been avoiding?
- What patterns am I finally ready to see clearly?
- What vision is forming in this darkness?
- How have I been lying to myself to stay comfortable?
From the Throat (Masculine Speaking):
- What truth needs to be voiced?
- What have I been swallowing that needs to be said?
- Who needs to hear what I’ve been keeping silent?
- What changes when I finally speak my truth?
From the Integration of Both:
- How can I honour what I see by giving it voice?
- What becomes possible when my seeing and speaking align?
- How do I bridge the gap between my inner knowing and outer expression?
- What wants to be born when I marry my vision with my voice?
A Visualisation: The Thread of Truth
- Find a quiet moment. Light a candle if you like. Sit comfortably and close your eyes.
- Take three deep breaths that reach your belly. Real ones.
- Now, place one hand on your forehead – over your third eye. Place your other hand on your throat.
- Imagine a thread of light connecting these two points. This is your thread of truth. It carries what you see into what you speak.
- Notice if this thread feels clear or blocked. Bright or dim. Easy or constricted.
- Ask your third eye: What do you need to show me?
- Wait. Receive. Don’t force it. Let the vision come.
- When something arises – an image, a knowing, a feeling – notice it without judgment. Just see it clearly.
- Now ask your throat: What needs to be spoken?
- Feel the words forming. They might not be complete sentences yet. They might just be a vibration, a hum, a sound wanting to emerge.
- Breathe deeply, and imagine the thread of light between your third eye and throat chakra glowing brighter. See your vision travelling down that thread, forming words.
- When you’re ready, open your eyes and write down what came through.
The Gift of This December Full Moon
This December full moon in Gemini is offering you a rare gift: the alignment of vision and voice, seeing and speaking, feminine and masculine energies working together.
It’s showing you clearly (third eye) what patterns of self-betrayal you’ve been running, what stories you’ve been believing, what vision is forming for your becoming.
And it’s opening your throat to speak the truth of what you see. Simply because truth spoken aloud has power that truth kept silent doesn’t.
When feminine seeing meets masculine speaking, when your inner vision finds its outer voice, something shifts. You stop abandoning and betraying yourself and what you know to be true, and you stop swallowing your truth to keep others comfortable.
Your inner knowing and outer expression match. What you see and what you say align. Your vision and your voice become one.
This is the sacred marriage this full moon is offering you.
Closing Reflections: Between the Full and the New
You have fifteen days between this full moon (4th/5th December) and the Sagittarius new moon (20th December). Fifteen days in the threshold and fifteen days on the bridge between release and rebirth.
If you are open and ready for it, let your third eye show you what needs to be seen and let your throat speak what needs to be said. Give yourself the gift of this time to bridge your inner vision with your outer voice.
When I look back on those stories from 2020, I’m not sure if this work gets easier, but it does get clearer. I’ve certainly got better at recognising the patterns of self-betrayal before they calcify into years of resentment and anger. And if you are anything like me, you’ll get braver about speaking truth, even when it feels uncomfortable, and you have to practice ten times in the mirror. You get more willing to see what needs to be seen, even when it’s uncomfortable.
So stand under this bright supermoon tonight, tomorrow, this week. Let your third eye open wide, release your throat chakra and let the breath carry your vision into your voice.
The December full moon is asking you: What are you ready to release? But really, it’s asking something deeper: Are you ready to stop betraying yourself? Are you ready to see clearly and speak honestly? Are you ready to let your vision and your voice become one?
What will you say when you finally let yourself speak the truth you’ve been seeing all along?
P.S. If you’re feeling the pull to do this work in community, with guidance and support, my “Alchemy of Becoming” workshop on 17th December is designed for this threshold time. We’ll be gathering between these two powerful moons to do the deep work of releasing and rebirthing together. [Learn more here – €88 includes 21 days of integration support.]
