August: Writing Prompts for Owning Your Power and Embracing Your Identity
August is a turning point as least it always is for me. We step through the threshold of the 8/8 Lion’s Gate portal – a powerful moment of infinite potential, expansion, and claiming who we truly are.
On this day in 2017, I finally claimed my own name and became Dale, stepping fully into an identity I had carried tucked away for years. (Even if a certain former IT director once worried people might mistake a young, skinny red-head for a tall, balding chap – the mind boggles!). It was a declaration of self: this is who I am.
August carries the energy of the number eight – infinity, power, and sovereignty. It is an invitation to step through the portal of your imagination, stop playing small, and declare your own “I am.”
Before you dip into these prompts, take a moment to stand in your own light and bathe in your aura. Think of one thing you have hesitated to own about yourself – a boundary, a desire, a title, or a truth – and say it out loud. Feel the weight of it by imagining pebbles with these words written on and held in your hands. Feel the power in it.
Here are eight prompts to help you step into your power, embrace your true identity, and write yourself boldly into this next cycle.
Eight Writing Prompts to Step Into Your Power
-
Claim your name and your space: What name, title, or truth have you kept hidden or minimised to make others comfortable? Write a declaration claiming it as fully yours today.
-
The “I Am” portal: Complete the phrase “I am…” eight different ways. Do not write who you think you should be – write who you truly are when all the noise falls away.
-
Taming the wild lion: Where in your life are you mistaking something fierce for something soft, or vice versa? Write about a boundary you need to roar a little louder to protect.
-
Owning your shadow and light: What is a strength or talent you possess that you secretly worry is “too much” for people? Describe it in all its glorious, unapologetic brightness.
-
The infinity of your imagination: If failure, judgment, and opinion did not exist, where would the portal of your imagination take you next? Write the scene in full, vivid detail.
-
Reclaiming your narrative: Think of a time someone tried to define who you were (or tell you who you couldn’t be). Rewind to that moment and write the response your present, empowered self would give them.
-
Your infinite capacity: What is one area of your life where you have been settling for crumbs when you actually crave the whole feast? Write out what stepping into abundance there looks like.
-
A letter from your sovereign self: Imagine yourself eight years from now—living completely in your power, untamed and unapologetic. What wisdom does she whisper back to you today?
How to use these: Pick the prompt that resonates that’s usually where the magic (and the truth) is hiding. Or you could go for the one you really don’t want to write… Find a quiet spot, open your journal, and let the ink flow without editing your scribbles.
